This is Summer Swim Season, JV Stars v. Cy-Mills Mako Sharks and Invitationals

    Hello Parents,

We have our last home and dual swim meet this Saturday before the big Championship Divisional meet next week.

We are hosting the Cy-Mills Mako Sharks. Information below.

Remember, this is Summer Swim Season! Let the Kids Have Fun!

We have had several unfortunate instances during the last few swim meets involving confrontations amongst our parents and amongst swimmers.  Please remember that the JV Stars is a community summer swim team.  While we want our kids to compete and win, the primary purpose of the JV Stars is for the kids to have fun, learn to become great swimmers and make lasting friendships!

We understand that the swim meets are hot, can be long and patience can be tested. Please remember that we are setting an example for our children by our actions. Engaging in arguments on the swim deck during and after swim meets is unproductive and provides a poor example of the team.

We have also had several instances in which swimmers have criticized, belittled, and been disrespectful to other swimmers . We are a team and this behavior is unacceptable!  At each practice I attend, I see our swimmers, under the fantastic guidance of our coaches, working extremely hard to improve their techniques and become faster swimmers.  At each swim meet, I have witnessed significant improvements throughout our team.

We cannot have swimmers ridiculing each other or being critical of one another. Every swimmer has a bad event from time to time. That is sport. When a teammate does not perform to expectations, our swimmers need to pick them up with encouragement. Leave constructive criticism to the coaches.

Please remind your children to be supportive of their teammates’ efforts, regardless of results, and that a swim team is not made up of one swimmer. We have about 150 swimmers on this team, all of which are striving to get better. For us to compete in the division we are in, we need every swimmer improving. Swimmers are more capable of improvement if they have the support and encouragement of their teammates.

The Board requests that if you have any concerns or issues, please let us know. Most of the time, it is a simple misunderstanding that can be resolved through a calm conversation.

End of Season Invitationals – Ponderosa and Trinity

We will be competing in two end of season invitational swim meets, Ponderosa Invitational and Trinity Summer Classic. To compete in these, a swimmer must have a qualifying time in the event they are to participate in. It will cost $5 per individual event that a swimmer is entered in. The JV Stars will pay for all relay entries.

Ponderosa is the FASTEST meet in NWAL for the “Best of the Best.” We encourage anyone who has qualified individually or on a relay to attend this great meet. It is a preliminary and finals meet for all individual events. If your swimmer has qualified for Ponderosa, that is an incredible accomplishment. Ponderosa will be held at Klein Oak High School on Saturday June 23 – Sunday June 24.

Trinity is a fast and efficient championship meet with two 8-lane pools running simultaneously. We encourage everyone who qualifies to attend this meet. It is a great way to end a great season for your swimmer in this amazing indoor pool environment. Trinity will be held at the new Cy-Fair ISD Natatorium on Saturday June 23 - Sunday June 24.

If your swimmer(s) will be attending either or both of these invitationals, do not just tell a coach or board member. Instead, go to the team website and logon. Click on the “Swim Meets” tab and scroll down to Trinity Invite 2018 or Ponderosa Invitational 2018. Next to the appropriate invitational, click on the “Meet Entry” link. You will see a list of your swimmers. Immediately below your swimmers’ names, click on the “Edit” link. You will then have the option of identifying that your swimmer will be “Attending this meet”. When you select “Attending this meet” for a specific swimmer, each event that your swimmer has qualified for will appear. Check each event that your swimmer will be competing in. You will also need to answer whether your swimmer is available to swim in relays. Who is entered in relays is at the discretion of the coaches.  Once you have completed the desired entries for all of your swimmers, click on "Save" link at the bottom of the page.

Keep checking after each meet to see if your swimmer has qualified for any other events. If so, you will need to enter them into that event as well. If your swimmer(s) have not yet qualified, they still have this weekend's meet and the divisional meet to qualify.

The deadline to enter through the website is Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. THIS IS A FIRM DEADLINE. Please note this deadline is the same day after divisionals. Thus, you will need to register immediately after the divisional meet if your swimmer posts a qualifying time.  If you do not register your swimmer by this deadline, they will not be entered into the invitational meet.
