Championship Week!!! Pancake Breakfast and Invitationals too!

Championship Week! This Saturday’s swim meet is what our kids have been training for all season. The coaches have been building them up for this coming Saturday. We need everyone there. Go JV Stars!!!

The kids will have fun all week too. In addition to the Divisional Championship swim meet, fun activities are planned for the kids during practice and, on Friday, a pancake breakfast!

    Divisional Championship Meet

The Divisional Championship Swim Meet is at the new Cy-Fair Natatorium next to Pridgeon Stadium. The address for the Natatorium is 11499 Bobcat Rd., Houston, TX 77064.

The Stars will be competing against each team in our division, Deerfield Village Dolphins, Blue Marlins Swim Team, Bridgeland Barracudas, Copperfield Dolphins and Cy-Mills Mako Sharks. The kids will compete in a ten-lane pool inside the Natatorium.

Set-up is outside. Bring your tents, chairs, tarps and blankets. Attached is an aerial view of the Natatorium. We will set up in the area where the purple JV is. There will be food trucks present as well. Bring some cash to buy some delicious food during the swim meet. There is no set-up inside the Natatorium.

    Check in your swimmers by 7 a.m. JV Stars warm-ups will be from 7:25 – 7:50 a.m.

Pancake Breakfast and Fun Themes For Practice

On Friday, there is a pancake breakfast for the swimmers after each of their practices. We will begin cooking pancakes at 7 a.m. and continue until everyone has completed practice (10:30ish).

We need some volunteers to help cook the pancakes and serve the kids. We would also appreciate some donations. These count as volunteer sessions.  Go to the website and sign up! Here is what we need:

    • Juice and Cups – We need 2 volunteers to each bring 4 gallons of orange or apple juice along with small plastic cups to serve the juice.
    • Bottled Water – We need 2 volunteers to each bring 4 24 packs of 16-ounce water bottles.
    • Fresh Fruit Trays – We need 2 volunteers to each bring 2 large fresh fruit trays.
    • Pancake Breakfast Helpers – We need 4 volunteers to help cook and serve pancakes to the swimmers and coaches. Volunteers should bring a spatula, large metal or plastic bowl (no glass), whisk, large spoon (ladle) or measuring cup and apron.

At each practice, we will have a different theme for the kids to have fun with and get them ready for this week’s swim meet:

Crazy Socks Monday – Wear the craziest socks you can find (and, yes, they will swim in them too).

Tights Tuesday – Time to break out the tights or leggings for swim practice.

Water Gun Wednesday – Bring your biggest water guns for some wet fun after practice (No Water Balloons Please)

T-Shirt Relay Thursday – I don’t know what this is – ask the coaches!

Purple Out Friday – wear all the purple you can find!!!!

    Volunteer Information

We still need volunteers. We must fill every position. That is our duty to the rest of the swim teams in our division as it is theirs to us. All volunteers need to check in as well.

If you have not completed your minimum volunteer sessions, this is your last chance. If you do not meet the minimum requirement, the JV Stars will deposit your volunteer check. Go the website and sign up.

    4. Scribes – 2 Third Shift Spots still open.

    5. Star Search – 2 First Shift, 2 Second Shift and 2 Third Shift Spots still open (again, if no one fills this, it will be each swimmer and their parents’ responsibility to get to the ready bench in a timely manner).

    6. Timers – 3 Third Shift Spots still open.

End of Season Invitationals – Ponderosa and Trinity

We will be competing in two end of season invitational swim meets, Ponderosa Invitational and Trinity Summer Classic. To compete in these, a swimmer must have a qualifying time in the event they are to participate in. It will cost $5 per individual event that a swimmer is entered in. The JV Stars will pay for all relay entries.

Ponderosa is the FASTEST meet in NWAL for the “Best of the Best.” We encourage anyone who has qualified individually or on a relay to attend this great meet. It is a preliminary and finals meet for all individual events. If your swimmer has qualified for Ponderosa, that is an incredible accomplishment. Ponderosa will be held at Klein Oak High School on Saturday June 23 – Sunday June 24.

Trinity is a fast and efficient championship meet with two 8-lane pools running simultaneously. We encourage everyone who qualifies to attend this meet. It is a great way to end a great season for your swimmer in this amazing indoor pool environment. Trinity will be held at the new Cy-Fair ISD Natatorium on Saturday June 23 - Sunday June 24.

If your swimmer(s) will be attending either or both of these invitationals,do not just tell a coach or board member. Instead, go to the team website and logon.Click on the “Swim Meets” tab and scroll down to Trinity Invite 2018 or Ponderosa Invitational 2018. Next to the appropriate invitational, click on the “Meet Entry” link. You will see a list of your swimmers. Immediately below your swimmers’ names, click on the “Edit” link. You will then have the option of identifying that your swimmer will be “Attending this meet”. When you select “Attending this meet” for a specific swimmer, each event that your swimmer has qualified for will appear. Check each event that your swimmer will be competing in. You will also need to answer whether your swimmer is available to swim in relays. Who is entered in relays is at the discretion of the coaches. Once you have completed the desired entries for all of your swimmers, click on "Save" link at the bottom of the page.

If you need assistance with entering, we will have computers at each practice this practice to help.

Keep checking after each meet to see if your swimmer has qualified for any other events. If so, you will need to enter them into that event as well. If your swimmer(s) have not yet qualified, they still have this weekend's meet and the divisional meet to qualify.

The deadline to enter through the website is Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 8:00 p.m.THIS IS A FIRM DEADLINE. Please note this deadline is the same day after divisionals. Thus, you will need to register immediately after the divisional meet if your swimmer posts a qualifying time. If you do not register your swimmer by this deadline, they will not be entered into the invitational meet.
