Good Afternoon Everyone,
Our JV Stars have won three swim meets in a row!!! Way to go Stars!!! Results from the swim meet are attached.
NO SWIM PRACTICE ON MEMORIAL DAY, MONDAY MAY 27. Everyone have a great day off and take time to remember and honor those men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our military. Practices will resume Tuesday afternoon at normal times. We do not switch to morning practices this week. That will occur on June 3.
Are you interested in learning how a summer swim team is operated? Then you may be interest in being a Board member.
The JV Stars Swim Team are looking for one or two new members to serve on the team Board for the 2020 swim season and beyond. The JV Stars have been active since the late 1970s making them one of NWAL’s oldest swim teams. As you can tell, the team is still vibrant and a strong part of the Jersey Village area community.
The JV Stars are run by a group of parents with kids on the swim team. As a quick introduction, the board spends a considerable but meaningful amount of time and effort planning and running the swim season and swim events. This includes, but is not limited to, setting up registration, running the swim meets, organizing team activities and much more! Countless numbers of parents have served on the board to keep the team friendly, competitive, and a family-oriented organization that represents the Jersey Village area proudly. However, swimmers get older and board members realize that the leadership torch must be passed on to parents with younger kids on the swim team.
If you are interested in being a part of this tradition and working with a great group of swim parents, please contact Krista Guerrero, Kristine Gill, Carol Martin, Astrid Novak, Jamail Blunt, Colin Sproule or Aaron Guerrero so that we can discuss your interest and what duties and responsibilities a board member has.
Please note that everyone who is interested and committed will not be invited to be on the board. There are a limited number of board positions. We are very interested in those who will serve as the team's head of computers or volunteer coordinator. The current board will collaborate and come to a decision on those who express interest.
Interested in becoming an NWAL Official?
The JV Stars are so fortunate to have such a great, dedicated and large group of NWAL swim officials!!!! This is another group of parents who are an important and necessary component of every swim meet. NWAL officials ensure every swimmer has fair and equitable conditions of competition and promote uniformity in the sport so that no swimmer obtains an unfair advantage over another.
There are numerous advantages to becoming an official including having the best view of the pool during each swim meet, understanding the details of each stroke, turn and finish, your lunch at swim meets is free and assisting the improvement of the swimmers by explaining why a disqualification has occurred.
If you are interested in becoming a stroke and turn official for the 2020 season, please contact our Head Referee, Carol Martin. Carol will give you more details on the steps you have to take to become a certified stroke and turn official. To get a sense of what officiating is like, talk to any of our officials: Carol Martin, Doug Davis, Floyd Powell, Melissa Powell, Rebecca Stamos, Eileen Torres, David Jessop, Guam Dinh, Sarah Ordonez, Paul Aguirre, John Duncan, Krista Guerrero and Aaron Guerrero.
