Third Week - First Swim Meet for 10 Years Old and Younger Swimmers!

Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful Moms! I hope our team’s Moms have a wonderful Sunday afternoon.

It was wonderful watching the kids swim time trials on Friday. The team looks forward to watching the swimmers improve as the season progresses.

This is our first swim meet week. Our 10 years old and younger swimmers will be hosting the Cy-Mill Mako Sharks at the Jersey Village Pool on Saturday, May 15. We are looking forward to watching our younger swimmers compete for the first time this season. GO JV STARS!!!

For our families joining us for the first time this year and as a reminder to all returning families, here is a bunch of information about the JV Stars’ first swim meet week.

    Kona Ice on Friday

A Kona Ice Truck will be present at practice on Friday. Bring some money to get your swimmers and kids (even yourself) a Kona Ice slush treat after practice on Friday.

    Practice

We will have practice Monday through Friday. We hope to have practice (weather permitting) five days a week for the remainder of the swim season.

    Swim Meet Information

Bring your tents, chairs, blankets, tarps, etc. with you to the swim meet and set up near your friends and neighbors. Please set up your tents in the area between the pool and the pavilion and splash pad.

Parking in the pool’s parking lot is first come first serve. You can also park in the Post Elementary parking lot. Parking is permitted along the streets around the pool. However, do not park in the areas marked with “No Parking” signs that we place out in front of the pool, along Jersey Drive and Shanghai Street. Please do not block mailboxes and driveways.

We will have concessions for breakfast and lunch. Bring some cash or your credit cards to keep the swimmers and yourself feed and hydrated throughout the swim meet.

Please check your swimmers in by 7:00 a.m. We will have poster-boards set up on a fence near our team set-up. Your swimmers will be listed along with each event that they will be competing in. Just place a check next to their name and remember to write down their event numbers. If you are running a little late, please contact a friend to sign your swimmer in.

Swim warm-ups for the JV Stars begins at 7:10 a.m.

If your swimmer is wearing a mask to the swim block, we request a parent accompany them through the ready bench and to the block to collect the mask and carry it to the other side of the pool. Otherwise, you are not permitted to enter the ready bench area and the areas roped off around the pool deck. Only swimmers, officials, timer & scribe volunteers and ready bench volunteers are permitted in this area. Your compliance with this NWAL rule keeps the swim meet moving efficiently. There is plenty of room on the swim deck to watch and cheer for your swimmers while they compete and your swimmer will get to the swim blocks for their race.

Remember that the large gate closest to Post Elementary School (near the diving board and slide) will be entrance only.  The gate near the pool parking lot and bathrooms are exit only.  We appreciate everyone complying with this simple rule to keep people moving through the pool area efficiently.

    Volunteer Information

All volunteers need to check in as well. A volunteer check in poster board will also be set up on a fence near our team set-up. Officials will have a meeting at 8:00 am. Timers & Scribes and Ready Bench volunteers will have separate meetings on the deck at approximately 8:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

Need to change you volunteer session? Each family needs to earn 2 volunteer sessions. If you need to change sessions or remove yourself from a volunteer session, follow these steps:

  • Go to www.jerseyvillage.swimtopia.com
  • Login to your account via the login link at the top right hand corner of the website.
  • Click “Swim Meet” tab.
  • Click “JOB SIGNUP” link for correct swim meet.
  • Click “Sign up Jobs”.
  • You can then change your selections for that swim meet.

  • Missing the Meet?

If one or more of your swimmers will be missing the swim meet this week, you will need to change their status to “not attending this meet” on the website. The deadline for withdrawing your swimmer(s) from the swim meet is Tuesday, May 11 at 11:30 PM.

To indicate that your swimmer(s) will be missing the meet, follow these steps:

    Go to www.jerseyvillage.swimtopia.com

Login to your account via the login link at the top right hand corner of the website.

Click on the “Swim Meets” tab.

Click on the “MEET ENTRY” tab next to Saturday’s Swim Meet.

All of your swimmers will then be listed. Click “Edit” and then change the status of each swimmer that will not be attending the meet to “not attending this meet.”

Then, you must click “Save” or your changes will not be registered in the system.

By selecting “not attending this meet”, the team will be unable to enter your swimmer in the swim meet. If your swimmer is attending, you do not need to go through this process. The assumption is that “undeclared” swimmers will be attending and entered.

Want to Leave a Note for the Coaches?

You can leave notes for the coaches about your swimmer. For example, if your swimmer will be leaving early and will not be present for the free-style relays, you will need to leave the coaches a note. Go through the same process for missing a swim meet. Except, select “Attending this meet”. That will activate a note section for you to leave a short message. After typing the message, you must click “Save”. If you do not, your message will not be saved in the system.

    Time Trials

The kids did great on Friday at the time trials. We will finish the 4:40 pm practice’s time trials on Monday. They still need to swim 50 meter Butterfly and 100 meter Individual Medley.

If your swimmer missed the time trials. Please speak with the coaches about getting times.

    Team Cheers

The JV Stars have two team cheers that they start every swim meet with. Here are the lyrics to the cheers. The coaches will practice these two cheers with the each group at the end of their practices on Friday.

    Thunderation Cheer

    Thunder

    Thunderation

    We’re from the JV reservation

    When we swim with determination

    We create a great sensation

    [Repeat 2 times]

    JV Stars Cheer

[Cheer starts with kids crouching and whispering]

    We are the Stars

    We couldn’t be prouder

    If you can’t hear us

    We’ll shout a little louder

[Repeat 2 to 3 times with the swimmers getting louder and rising each time. Last time, the kids should be screaming the cheer.]

Heat Sheets and Order of Events

On Friday, the team will email out the Heat Sheets for Saturday’s swim meet. The Heat Sheets will show you which events your swimmers are entered into along with which heat and lane they will swim in. Each swimmer can be entered into up to 3 individual events and 2 relay events.  Typically, 6 years old and younger swimmers are only entered into the freestyle and backstroke individual event and are eligible to be entered into the 6 years old and younger freestyle events.  Here is the order of events for Saturday’s swim meet and, for each, there is a separate girls and boys event:
