Jersey Village Pool Bond Committee Meeting, June 13 @ 6:30

June 13th Bond Committee meeting @ Civic Center @ 6:30pm

Hello, fellow Jersey Village Stars parents,

Please join the City of Jersey Village and its Pool Bond Committee on June 13 at 6:30pm at the Civic Center. The Bond Committee will be meeting to hear and discuss a more detailed presentation by Counsilman-Hunsaker for possible solutions to the Jersey Village Pool at Clark Henry Park.

The committee has heard some initial options from Counsilman-Hunsaker for the pool.

    • The first, and least desirable, option is cheaper but would only refurbish the existing pool. There would be no warranties for the work and the pool might last another 10 – 15 years. The estimated costs for such repairs would be $4-$5 million. This may seem frugal, but does not solve the situation long-term. Also, the cost of pool replacement will only increase in the next 15 years.
    • The second option is a new pool. Estimates are between $6 and $10 million, and various models will be presented on June 13th. These models and mock-ups of pools are merely suggestions and subject to change. It is important to keep this fact in mind. The final plans for the pool will be determined once the bond is on the ballot and passed, with further input from the community.
    • One of these options must be approved by the committee, placed on the ballot, and then voted on in the November 5th election.

The current pool is one major repair away from being non-functional and the City of Jersey Village has already announced that the current pool will not be reopened after this summer.

The Jersey Village Stars has a strong vested interest in the passage of this bond and the construction of the new pool. Without a clear, complete solution to our current pool, the Jersey Village Stars will cease to exist. Without an operating pool, the Jersey Village Stars will not have a place to swim, practice and hold meets.

The Jersey Village Stars also has an interest in the neighborhood having a pool open to the community’s use. A community pool provides all families and kids in the community a safe social gathering place in the summer, a place to learn to swim and an asset that enhances property values throughout the neighborhood. A strong community with a pool increases the number of families that will be members of the team.

The board has discussed this situation and can make plans for one season while a new pool is constructed. The board and Jersey Village Stars cannot see a permanent alternate site for the team. If we do not swim in Jersey Village, we would no longer be the Jersey Village Stars.

    Please consider the following:

    • Attend the Pool Bond Committee on June 13 at 6:30 PM. Come to the Civic Center and show support of a new pool. Even if you do not reside in Jersey Village, your presence will show the importance of this process. If you do reside in Jersey Village and wish to, public comment time will be allowed.
    • Talk with your neighbors and gauge their interest in voting for the bond. We need a grass-roots effort to get out the vote.
    • Volunteer to spearhead and organize a campaign for the bond election in the Fall. We are looking for two or three families to take on organizing block walks, flyers, etc. to inform our neighbors that voting for this bond is the only option.

Thank you for your dedication to Jersey Village Stars, the pool and the City of Jersey Village.

Join us and work with us to improve the pool, the park and the City of Jersey Village.

To volunteer to chair the campaign, or simply for more information, please speak with one of your Jersey Village Stars Board members.
